  • auto transmission sump gasket

    I wish to change the oil & filter in the auto transmission of my 3.0 Hilux Surf SSR-X 1996. I have the Toyota Filter, but Toyota say there is no gasket. Can anyone please advise what to use to seal the mating surfaces between the sump & gearbox please?

    You need something like this;

    I did my 2.4 about 5 years ago and no problems up to press.
    All the best

            They do exist (in the U.S.A. at least) although they're listed under Lexus.
            The Lexus LS400 and SC400 (soarer) sump pans are exactly the same as the Surf's.

                  It's only a gasket that will fit in an envelope!

                    just tried rock auto - £22-46 delivered.

                    there is a minimum post charge by weight from usps. buy more and it works out cheaper.

                      That's what the web site detailed when I tried to order one - I've since had an e:mail to say they don't ship to the UK hmmmm

                          Use something like "Permatex grey" to seal the pan back on and the filter is a mesh screen so you can wash that out with petrol or similar. Unless you are lucky the cork gaskets tend to leak after a while as due to the pans being "Glued on" in the factory they can distort during removal (which causes all sorts of cursing, swearing and gnashing of teeth). I never remove the pans unless there is a solenoid problem rather just "Drain and flush" for which you will need 10-12 litres of fluid, Something like or equivalent to Valvoline Maxlife being the "poison of choice" in this instance
