  • Squeaky Suspension after fitting big tyres?

    Hi I have a 3l Auto 1993 Surf.

I have just fitted some BFG 33x12.50 15, with some minor modifications to the front and rear lower archwells and mudflaps. I have standard suspension.

I took it out for a test drive after doing the modifications and the suspension is really noisy, squeaking over any bump.

What is it? How do I fix it?

    Thanks James

No there's still a few inches of clearance.

      It's suspension like squeaking.

I'm going to try greasing everything that moves.

Maybe it's the small change in sitting position for all the joints that is causing it.

      I'll post the results.

        Results of greasing:

Spray greased everything that looked liked it moved.

Squeak remain. Its coming from the offside, where the wishbone is connected to the "wheel hub bit".

Its a screamer. I have been bouncing up and down on it and it just won't stop.

Anyone have any ideas for a solution to a Sqeaky Wishbone Joint?

        Thanks James

Are you talking about the upper balljoint?

            Hi thanks for posting

Sorry I didn't mention it was the lower OF wishbone joint.

I think it's that little bit on the end that flexes slightly.

It's difficult to pin point exactly.

I mean the wishbone side little arm that connects to the ball joint.

might be better with a picture

the little bit that flexes on the end and the side little arm that connects to the balljoint doesn't really help.

do you mean the anti roll bar drop link

                      Success !

I've got a good picture of the part I've been referring to, but I don't know how to upload a photo on this site. All I can find is a way to reference a photo that's online.

I'll upload the picture if someone tells me how.

However, the spray grease has worked. It took a 20 hours or so but the squeaking is gone. Ahhhhhhh

If in doubt "grease everything that moves!" Worked a treat!

I think I'll grease all the moving parts at the back too!

                      Thanks, Peeps

Sounds like upper control arm bushings from the description, but a picture is worth a thousand words.

                            Here's the picture.

The part that looks extra dark and dripping with grease was the part that was squeaking from the wider wishbone side joints.

It's like a little arm at the end of the wishbone.

Thats a lower ball joint, if its squeaking it needs changing ASAP, at least grease it properly, spraying it won't do it much good.

If it fails you'll be in a world of shite
