  • Some Questions About Suspension

One day I will be able to answer a question for someone. Till then, I have some more for you guys...

Can anyone tell me exactly where I'll find the adjusting nut/bolt/screw or whatever it is, for the front torsion bars? Are there any pics anywhere - I've found none here, nor on other Surf sites.

If I replace the OE shocks with aftermarket ones, do I lose the adjustability?

I've read that the rear height should be about 22" from centre of wheel to arch - does this depend on tyre size? I've got 265/70R15s.

What's the front height supposed to be?

Do "uprated" aftermarket torsion bars give any increase in front ride height, or are they just harder to compress?

I'd like my Surf to be as high as it can go with as little fuss as possible - I'm thinking of (in time) 2" taller back springs, cranking up the torsion bars (as far as I can, without having to extend any shafts or stuff like that), and longer front & rear shocks (is this necessary?)

I have no shame in admitting that this lift will be largely an aesthetic excercise - big trucks are cool. As The Who put it - "I'm a Boy"...

You will lose the Hard/Soft option if fitted, will not alter ability to adjust ride height via torsion bar adjustment

Thats the very reason for measuring from hub to arch, this method is not affected by tyre/wheel size (measuring from ground to arch would vary)

Do "uprated" aftermarket torsion bars give any increase in front ride height, or are they just harder to compress? The uprated bars will not in themselves give extra height, just increased stiffness

You can get adjustable ones (for a price obviously)

Do "uprated" aftermarket torsion bars give any increase in front ride height, or are they just harder to compress? because of the extra strenght you can increase the ride height with less risk of breaking them
