  • HELP 4x4 problems

Hi, new to Jap 4x4's, been a Rangie man before so grabbed the chance and bought myself a HILUX Surf, as far as i know its an LN130.

Ive been having problems selecting 4 wheel drive, if i take off the vaccum hoses and conect them direct i can get the beast to lock into 4WD, but still wont work from the switch/button, ive managed to wangle some print outs from my local Toyota dealer with reference to electrical system, its shows a relay along with a 20A fuse, but for the life of me i cant find them, i have managed to locate the 4x4 control ecu.

Can anyone please help, cheers Wiggy.

first up check the switch, then is the solenoid locking the front prop? the front diff stuff won't work untill the t/case is in 4wd.

its usually the t/case solenoid, or one of the position switches.

Thanks for all the help, sorted the problem, it seemed to be the motor that engages the T/case, stripped down and rebuilt with the help of lots of WD40, would of worked straight away if id put it back togeather the right way round, woops.
        Cheers Wiggy

          same problem?

would this be the same as the problem I have in my thread?, if so which part of the transfer casing do I remove and any potential problems when doing so?

Possible, if you look on the back of the transfer case, you'll see a uint bolted to the back of it with 3 14mm bolts, if you unplug the 2 electrucal conectors, and remove the unit, you'll need to take it apart and see if the motor is siezed this is what my problem was, BUT BECAREFUL TO LAY ALL THE PARTS OUT IN ORDER ON REPLACE THEM IN REVERSE, as i found out to my peral, to me ages to work out which bit went were.

If it is your motor that is siezed i managed to free myn off with WD40 and just working it by hand. if you have any problems with this let my know and i can talk you through it by phone if you would like.

                thanks wiggy

cheers for the tip, if I get stuck i'll let you know. I have a spare 2.4 surf that I use for robbing bits, any idea if the transfer case bits are interchangeable with the 3.0??
