  • Rear Window replacing cogs with teeth !!!!

Apologies if this has already been answered on this forum, but I have searched to no avail.....
My rear window stopped going up. it would get halfway and then appear to struggle and jump, the motor still running.... so we had a look by taking back panel off etc and it seems the teeth are knackered on one of the cogs......
My question... do we have to buy the complete unit , motor as well, or can we just replace the cogs ???? Where would be the cheapest place to get replacement ??
    Thanks in advance

The rear window mechanism is one part, roughtrax sell what I assume are pattern ones, someone here's bound to have tried one. If not a second hand one may be an option.

If the teeth are broken check the teeth on the motor cog too, it also makes sense to open up the motor to check the rubber shock absorber there's a thread about repairing/reinforcing it on here.

Also when its open check the runners on the base of the window they go rusty and cause the window to block.

Can't say anything about the roughtrax mech because i went for the Milners one (it was cheaper). Been in since Friday and so far haven't had any problems, it came with White grease on all the cogs, but I did need to take a wire brush to the bottom runners on the window (then grease) to get the rollers in and moving freely.
      Gone from 4x4 to 1x2

        Checkout some recent threads
        HERE, HERE and HERE.

        That should help.

As offered to others, if it is the bonding on the rubber disc in the motor then I would repair it for you if you needed me to?

        Thanks,

        Ray.
I've got a plan and it's as hot as my pants!

            A little help if possible....?!!

Reading this thread I thought I would try and improve my rear window - mistake so far! Motor is out and cover is off, it was a bit of a mess inside so I cleaned it up and after trying to disassemble further (circlip has broken!) nothing would come apart and so I reassambled with a healthy application of grease and re-installed hoping it might improve things. In fact it is now worse!
Basically from half way up I get a squealing which is obviously friction somewhere. The internals of the motor all seem to be together.
I've greased and sprayed all that I can but it doesn't seem to have made a difference.
Does anyone have any advice/tips please!

            Thanks,

            Tom.

If the disc has now completely separated then you'll need to bolt it as per one of my previous links.

If you're stuck PM me and I'll arrange to sort it for you being in Dorset you might not be far away!

                Cheers Flashart,

I have in fact reassembled and aren't really any further forward from when I started it to be honest - still squeaks and slows as wit gets to the top and for the time it will have to stay like that.
Thanks for the offer, I'm only in Poole so not far. I may take you up on that in the future when I get round to it.

                All the best,

                T.
