  • CV joint gaitors

im wondering how hard it is to replace the front outer cv joint gaitor on the drivers side, my one is split and doesnt look like there is much grease left in the joint.

and where is the best place to get a new one from?
    thanks

milners or roughtrax put them in to google and should find the website ? not sure if stormforce will sell them separate to the CV??

i replaced mine a few months ago bit of a pain as have to disconnect the CV from the wheel and front diff then thread it out but there are write ups on here and the aussie forum with pics! should take a couple of hours

swearing at the surf is what makes you a good mechanic! so too is slinging a hammer or spanner across the drive!

I've just done mine tonight. well, since friggin 3pm! finished at 10pm! Did all 4 BJ's, all 4 CV boots and both full tie rods..

The first one i was crappin myslef mate! got ###### drive shaft in my hand panicking! But, really, they're not that bad. I just got em both in a bucket of boiling water for 5 mins to soften them up first, they popped on ok after that, and i filled them with the supplied grease.

While your going to the trouble of taking off the drive shaft, it'd be daft NOT to do both boots..

you can get the boots that slip over a cove so you dont have the remove the joint, cant remember what they are called but have seen them used, it took the guys seconds to fit,

If you doing outer you have to take inner off to put new one on so do both.....

£155 plus an air line is a fair few boots, or even a couple of trips to the local garage and let them get greasy for the same money....

Fair enough, that sound more reasonable. One of mine split a while a go. I know the joint is now probably fcuked so delaying the inevitable...
