  • advice needed on transfer box

hi all,i have a kzn130 1993 3.0ltd manual ssrg....it wont drive, put it into gear but wont go anywhere,i have got a mate who works for toyota and he came to look at it and said its your transfer box,he ruled out clutch stright away...he said i have to get a second hand transfer box..he said i would be better getting a gearbox and transfer box all intact, its easier and wont leak....now the questions

    1...is he right?
    2....do i need a exact like for like transferbox/gearbox from same model/year
    3..or can i use different year/ model
4...and does it have to be a 3.0l td manual

many thanks...hope someone can assist me as my surf is in great condition...thanks paul

Might be obvious to some , but is the box in neutral??
Say not always what you know, but always know what you say.

no its not in neutral, mechanic came out and made diagnosis right away...saying transfer box....hmmmm...that was quick i thought...no looking, nothing just playing around with gears.

Never heard of a transfer case just giving up.

Did it suddenly happen or has the truck been stood unused for a while?

Does the transfer lever shift positively into each position (L4-N-H2) with no sloppyness?

Have you tried selecting L4 to see it the truck drives?

p.s. any gearbox/transfer case from 1991-1995 will fit.

no its all good no sloppyness, its as before, but when lift the clutch up no movement....and when you turn the engine off it makes an awful noise....but mechanic said its not clutch...puzzled...dont want to fork out for transfer/gearbox if its not that....will have to trust my mate the mechanic...he seems to know about these.

I think it's your dual mass flywheel thats broken.

dual mass flywheel is a spring loaded flywheel an if the springs broke the flywheel wont put power to the clutch an then it cant get power to the box so no drive
