  • Tyre Size and Speed

    Hi everyone.

Just become the proud owner of a 93 2.4 SSR-X Surf.

It has 215/80 R15 tyres fitted.

I make that a diameter of 28.5 inches.

Seeing as that differs from the recommended tyre diameter of 31 inches (31/10.5 R15) I assume that this will put an error in the speedo reading as the circumference of the tyre is different and the vehicle is travelling a different distance for every revolution of the wheel.

Seeing as I already have 3 points from going through a speed camera at 33mph, I wonder if anyone can tell me what allowance I should make with the speedo indicated reading?

Just to make things more difficult, Katie (my Surf) was only imported into the country in April this year and the previous owner hadn't had the speedo face changed so I am still converting KPH into MPH in my head until I get and fit an MPH speedo faceplate!

Your speedo will be over reading with smaller tyres, so your not going as fast as it shows.
