  • rear diff oil seal

I have a 3rd Gen surf and there seems to be a splattering of oil all round the rear diff seal by where the prop shaft connects to it. oil has flicked off all round the chassis, exhaust, shocks etc so it looks like its coming from the diff oil seal.

does anyone know how to replace the oil seal on the diff? is it an easy job i can do with the diff in situ or will i have to remove the diff?

    Cheers,

It can be done in-situ. Drop the prop shaft, undo the flange nut and remove flange - seal can be levered out and new one fitted. Two things to note: you'll need to make a "tool" to hold the flange while you undo and tighten the nut (a long bit of steel with two holes to bolt to the flange) and you need to note the alignment of the nut and flange so they go back in the same place.
