my pipes were blocked for the rear heater so i just disconnected them at the front under the thermostat housing and got a bicycle inner cable and using a cordless drill with variable trigger wound the cable through using it like a screw and it pulled the crap up towards the drill basically once i got as much as possible out i then back flushed it with the hose pipe and alls been well since

it sounds difficult but believe me it's not, just use a bit of common sense and you'll be fine just remember not to spin the cable to quick or you'll either hurt yourself or you'll pull the drill back and catch the positive terminal on the battery and yes i'm speaking from experience, it's also better to have a reversable drill as i found i needed to use the drill in both directions

Its either leaking from somewhere or is stuffed up, no other reason to disconnect so I'd be keeping a sharp eye on radiator coolant levels after you reconnect as this heater could cause problems you do not want. If you really need a rear heater then replace the whole thing, pipes, matrix, at least you'll know its fitted right. H

had the heaters connected back up for a few week now and no leaks etc, maybe they was disconnected to avoid a problem starting

NO, someone before you was looking for a leak, if the heaters are working OK I'd be keeping an eye on the coolant levels in the radiator, note, I said radiator and not the overflow coolant tank!!!!! H

If the coolant seeps on to the matrix it can evaporate off well before a drip developes, or damp carpet becomes an issue. The result is still the same - coolant level will drop.

Seems strange someone would go to the effort of by-passing the heater unless they suspected a problem.

I'd change the metal pipes under the floor for copper. 8mm Cu radiator (central heating) pipe is what I replaced mine with, easily bent to same shape as originals and will not rust out. I can't see why anyone would have disconnected rear heater unless something was goosed or very close to failing.

                              Cheers

                              Ben

Yes, remove rad cap when cold, if its not full to the neck of the filler pipe and staying there its going/leaking somewhere. H
