  • Help.....

Decided to swap front & rear wheels over today.
I'm new at this game & not very mechanically minded but managed to jack up vehicle (2nd gen Surf with 3rd Gen alloys) & undid the 6 wheel nuts.
cannot budge the wheels; either front or rear - will not move - they seem seized.... have applied some release agent & will try again tomorrow - Am I doing something wrong? Is there some incompatability with the 3rd Gen alloys on 2nd gen axles? Can any of the experts out there advise me....

    Thanks in anticipation.

Just give them a good boot they should come off then, or use a really big nylon type hammer on the back of the wheels
My brakes dont work, so i made the horn louder.

Jack the truck up, stick it on stands, lie on your back and alternately kick the wheel top, bottom, left and right with the soles of your boots.

DO NOT do the above or hit anything with anything unless the truck is on stands.

If they won't come off and you're a mechanical numpty, take it to a tyre fitter to alternate them for you.

If you're mechanically competant, there are a few other things you can do to break them off the lip of the hub.

My original alloys where like this, as Albannach rightley says unless it's on stands don't welly it, if you can't see why.. ok it drops off the jack and then the wheel does come away and your leg is sliced off by the brake disk and 2 tonnes of truck or you could get lucky and just ruin the disks.

I have in the past put the nuts back on finger tight and driven about 10 foot, this usualy works but is damaging the bolt thread and the alloy wheel not a good idea really.

Axle stands not expensive and well worth getting.

Had the same prob with mine many moons ago, took it to a local tyre co and watched thru the viewing window as a graet big numpty lay under it (on a jack) and hit the backs of the tyres with a 4ft length of 2x2 steel!!!!

(he got them off tho' eventually)

If you get them off, put a little copper ease on them before refitting them.
