  • Automatic Gearbox 3.0L KZN130

Hi, a few weeks ago I bought my first Surf. I'm really glad with it, but had a few problems what's sorted by now. Altough one problem is still occuring.

After I start and drive the car, all the warning lights are off, the car drives like a dream. However after 3-5 minutes the O/D OFF lights comes on and flashing. All the functions are work, got all the gears and O/D, but the gear change is not as smooth and sometimes need to rev the engine higher to change the gear. If I stop the car and wait for about an hour (I assume to let it cool down) the light goes off for a few minutes but comes back again.
I red and searched the forum and made a diagnostic by connecting the relevant ports, and the O/D light flashing 3 and 8. I'm not sure if that supposed to be 2 different codes or Code38. I could not find any about these fault codes.

Speedo works fine, everything works even after the light comes on but there is some bug there.
The car had an engine conversion from 2.4 to 3.0 however not sure if the gearbox was changed or just the bigger engine got fitted to the old bearbox. Is there any way to check that? The engine revving around 3000rpm at 70mph.

Thanks for any answers and suggestions

There are manuals available for download from
    here: http://daemon4x4.org/portal/downloads.php

you should be able to find the codes in there somewhere, unless someone else comes along with a definite answer. Have you checked the tranny oil level, it needs to be done when hot and running and doesn't like to be too low or high, I'd look there first. H

Yep, I did change the oil. That was between the marks, but I could not replace lot, only 2-2.5 litres came out.

From the problems you describe, sounds like an ECU fault.

I checked the gearbox type and it has a code on it 30-43LE, so I understand it's a 343F. Does this type came in default with the KZN130-3L TD engine?
The engine was changed and I'm just not sure if the gearbox had changed or left with the 2.4s gearbox. Are they compatible anyway?

Still can not find the magic Code38 for the gearbox though.

most gearbox codes are 60's, apart from the speed sensor. not seen a 30 something listed, you may find its confused from motor change.

i think the gearboxes are the same, with a different bellhousing, but not 100% sure, they look the same.
