  • Pump timing advance

Does anyone here run SVO/WVO, and has advanced their pump timing? It would be nice to know what other users experiences are of advance timing, how many degrees etc...

I don't think any of us have messed with the pump timing. What makes you think it should be advanced?

    Links and data please.

Well, to quote Mike at Biotuning, where I bough my HE kit from:
With electric heating it doesn't really help. The reason is that it heats the fuel but the hot fuel then goes into the pump - large cold block of metal and the fuel is cold again due to the large thermal mass of the pump. It's not until the engine, injector pump, injectors and rails are warm that the fuel remains hot throughout the
fuel system. You can upgrade to run on vegoil from cold but it involves injector heaters, higher injection pressures, advanced timing and longer duration glow plugs as well as electric heating of the fuel. Food for thought !

I have also read this on http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum/index.php

Mine runs fine on 95% SVO 5% petrol (and now a splash of 2 stroke), but gets lumpy between the cold start and the temp gauge rising.

Sorry, but that's just one man's opinion. Nae doubt he'd be willing to do all the fancy work he's recommended.

I'd still like to see proper controlled data to back up this timing advance theory. I'd also like to see how they retard the timing when the oil is at their nominally correct temperature.

I'll do some more research on the forum, but couldn't register last time I tried, and I'll also ask Mike what the reasons are for advancing the pump timing.
