  • Going To Murder My Son!

    Hi All,

My son, in his infinite innocence, managed to smash a rather large go-kart belonging to one of his mates into one of the neighbours cars.

Caused a small dent and a few deep scratches into the door of his 'vomit green' estate.

Does anyone know if Halfords Dentmaster are cheaper/better than getting the local 'very expensive' body shop to do the repair?

If I took a snap of the damage could someone who knows about these things give me a rough estimate of how much it will cost?

I don't want the guy taking the pi55 and money is very tight at the moment!

    Thanks!

    Gary

TBH mate if someone hit my car, the last thing i'd want is a halfords bodge job done on it, i'd want it done properly.

    Just my opinion.
If its not broke don't fix it.

Thats basically what I mean mate!

Are they cheaper/better than a body shop?

Don't get me wrong but his car ain't exactly 'showroom condition'.

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and paying 'top dollar' to fix a banger is taking the pi55 a bit.

My idea is repairing the damage caused not replacing the whole door!

I heard that some to55ers can make a few quid by getting the bodyshop to inflate the price.

I just want to know if he comes to me with a quote that makes me dizzy I can tell him to get it done in Halfords.

Right im with you now, see what he says but if the cars a bit of a shed anyway i can't see any reason not to go for the cheapest option first.

It only cost me £35 and an hour of my time to change a door shell on the surf with another of the same colour that my be the cheapest option even if it is a custom colour as the whole door will prob need a respray after the repair anyway.

In the eyes of the law it's the other guy who gets to choose were the repair is carried out as long as the quote is, "reasonable".
            Nissan Patrol for on-road, and a Land-Rover 110 shed for off-road :-)

              re

Either way I think there is going to be a bit of a kerfuffle!

I simply ain't got any cash at the moment to spare.

I got an home heating oil bill outstanding, both cars tax is up end of April and both insurances due 1st and 30th June.

If he can wait until July/August when I eventually get my Army pay then everything will be fine.

Work has dried up over here and we are struggling to make ends meet as is everyone else.

It's true what they say, just when you think that you cannot fall any further down someone comes along and stands on your 8alls!

Your son anyway, not someone. I'd dock it out of his pocket money.
