The replacement gasket is cheaper than a tube of gloop.

I use RTV sealant for most stuff.

Yeah, I've got a replacement gasket but was wondering whether 2 use a little bit of sealant like RTV seal with it 2 make sure it's super-sealed??? Some people do, others r saying that it isn't necessary!! Whacha reckon m8?

        Not necessary.
The new gasket will be soft and pliable enough to make a good seal on it's own. The reason the old gasket leaks is due to engine heat causing it to become brittle and shrink, and also because it's getting on for nearly twenty years old by now.

You're supposed to use a couple of blobs of RTV, where it crosses the machining insert at back, and the corners of the raised bit over the cam at front.

Also pull the insert out from the back, clean it up and out it back with a bead of RTV on it.

I got me overalls on & me tools out a couple of days back & replaced the rocker gasket for a nice new one & did an oil/filter change at the same time, using a new sump plug & washer... The oil leak has improved dramatically as there was a big split in the rocker cover gasket, but after leaving the truck there are still a couple of small patches of oil the size of golf balls on the ground a while l8er... I know it's a truck that's the best part of 20 years old so a couple of little drips are inevitable so I've added some Oil stop leak to the oil to try 2 renew the seals a bit... Any other hints guys or have I simply got 2 replace the other engine gaskets when I get round 2 it?...cheers!
