  • Auto box slipping

Does anyone have any ideas why an autobox would slip while driving hard but ok while driving normal?

It's a 3.0L not that it should make any difference.

Trans oil is good and correct level

    Thanks

How do you mean slip and what do you call driving hard ???

if you find you are constantly driving along below 50mph with
marginally excessive revs when accelerating and what appears
to be slip that seems to be the norm for a surf, as far as i know.

The TC will not lock till your over approx 50mph in top gear
some people have fitted a TC lock up switch to counter this...

      But then it is friday......................
      Remember arrows are silent.....................
Don't forget to tell everyone its indestructable as seen on top gear.......

If he is on about the truck that was on ebay then what he has described here in this thread is whet the seller on ebay has stated and is the reason the truck was sold.If its not the t/c then it may need the atf changing

Could be the clutch bands on the gears are worn or cooked.

At very worse it'll need a used Autobox, which isn't the end of the world.

Aren't the 2.4 and 3.0 boxes the same?

Yes, but some people are hard to convince.

i never realised they are the same gearboxes on the 2.4's and 3.0's.
I learn something new all the time

Yes it's the one from ebay......fingers crossed it's a bargain, never know until you get it.

If the 2.4 box is the same that would be great as I have 1 here, didn't know if the gear ratios would be the same though.

Need a 3.0L cos I pick Surfs up on a trailer and my 2.4 struggles going up some of the hills. Shame really because it's been so good.

Until I pick the truck up I won't really know whats wrong excatly I can only go on what the guys saying, just preparing myself.

God I've got 5 Surfs now!!! Thats it I'm not buying anymore..................for a while anyway........

what weight trailer you got then Brad cause i used to hire a big ifor williams tiltbed that was about 1-1.5t and with a surf on it was slow going and juicy.
I bought a new ifor williams trailer last year which weights 500kg and can carry 2.1t which makes life a hell of alot better for towing but still a bit slow.Got to be carefull tho as my towing weight is right on the limit for a 2nd gen so be careful when towing and have a light as poss trailer which can carry the weight just so your legally towing

I would say my trailer weighs about 1/2 ton and my god does the surf drink fuel.

I went to dorset (just past Bridport) to pick up a Surf and back to Dawlish and it cost £50 in fuel!!

What is the train (towing) weight of a Surf? I've had enough so I should know but hey ho.
