Do you know an easy way to do it without taking the shaft out?

Yeah, same grease.

You could remove the shock bolt from the lower wishbone, undo balljoint nut or the four nuts holding the B/J on, remove large hub nut, push down on lower wishbone and pull hub assembly towards you enough to slap some grease on the shaft.

Looking at the CV Boot replacement walk through on the Aussie site, I gather you can undo the 6 nuts that hold the half axle to the diff and slide the axle out from the back.

Is it worth doing it this way as I have both wheels of and it's up on stands.

Haven't seen the Aussie site but did mine this way. Had to wind down the torsion bars to give a better angle for clearance on the wishbones and also found it easier to remove the lower shock bolt then it was easy,

you should be able to do it this way ok Gary but you may have to take the shock off of the lower wishbone tho as the drive shaft may well catch,but you should be able to get to enough of the shaft tho to grease up
