  • Rough Country 5" Suspension Lift for 2nd Gen

In case anyone wasn't aware of it and would be interested I found the Rough Country lift kit for the 2nd gen surf and it's a staggering 5"!
    http://www.roughcountry.com/suspensi...r_90-95_5.html

It looks very comprehensive, not like most of the kits I have seen over here where some parts are supplied but the rest has to be purchased as extra or fabricated yourself.
    Install instructions

Looks like a good install, especially for the guys who don't like the body lifts.

    Thanks,

    Ray.

I've seen that kit before. I asked them how much it would cost to send it over, but they didn't reply. It does look quite a good kit, but I think a 6-8 hour installation time on a 17+ year old truck is a bit optomistic?

Where's the rear lower arm drop brackets though ? Are the top arms lengthened ? If so will that stop them hitting the petrol tank ? (just looked at the install guide and it says they are offset which will give some clearance to the tank)

I'd rather have the procomp or superlift kit myself.

      Rob.

Edit: It will be a 4" lift with the extra 1" gained from a torsion bar tweak..

I'm not sure the Procomp kit is worth an extra £700? This one does look like better VFM.

The procomp and superlift kits go for around $1200 against the rough country one at $800. So thats a $400 difference which works out around ~£265 more.

Yes I'd pay the extra personally (If I had the money to spend )

Where did you get the £700 figure ?

          Rob.

edited as I misread the roughcountry lift to be 700 dollars not 800..

I'd rather have the Rough country kit than a Pro-comp one, have you seen the quality of their shocks?

That kit could easily be manufactured over here, but British fabricators price themselves out of business and people would rather import stuff.

Photo #3 on the rear suspension, speed sensor wire???

I wondered about that but thought it was maybe a US emmissions add on thing?

That's the problem though - over here everyone seems happy with the LC rear coils and a BJ spacer front lift. If someone went to the trouble of making up dies to press the parts, and making the molds for the front hub knuckle spacer they'd probably end up selling 10 kits... the return is not worth the investment.

Because, in total, it can be done for £300 and in a couple of hours. Plus, we don't do the stuff they do with their trucks and we don't have the volume of users.

Plus most owners buy these trucks with their hearts and not their heads.

That's what I meant kind of - because there is such a small market here we miss out on aftermarket goodies, or get fleeced by UK importers charging more than it would cost to import privately.

Which is why I replaced the head and all the suspension / brakes / etc on my 2.4 when I should have scrapped it and saved all that money

                              Try Rocky Mountain instead ?
