Sorry maybe I just a little confuddled but steering racks only have a track rod end either end of the rack.. N/S & O/S. If the rack has been changed the track length between the two wheels will be constant! Inner track rod ends are used on the steering BOX system which also incorporates IDLERS. Sloguns and Pyjamas had issues with the constantly changing track length with this system, infact there were recalls on them which the Stealerships even honoured on cars that were virtually scrap....
Whatever system you have you need to go to an mot station with the latest equipment (ATL, automatic testing lane) that will shake, sqash and stretch your front end whilst you watch ALL the components that are a factor in your steering! The wishbone bushes, the steering swivels rack mounts, idlers, crossmember location.
Castor angles that have been altered by suspension lifts give very vague steering that picks up any defects in our wonderfully maintained roads.
AH!! I got the answer, you are driving on the road toooo much. Stick to offroad and motorways. Offroad you just wont notice your problem and there are three lanes to use on the motorway..
........no offence just my sense of humour..........
If your chassis code is KZN185 like mine you could have a loooooose lower ball-joint, when the car is jacked up you jack on the wishbone (less jackin) this holds the joint in place. Back on the road its all loooose again givin that vague feelin.......
Best of luck, I hope this helps, will follow .
thaks for advice fiyc. i be checking ball joints out this evening. i have replaced all moving parts now and rubbers, only thing left is ball joints and the rack itself. i was informed there were inner and outer track rod ends but i know now better. i decided to do work myself so i atleast get to know what i got under there. there no suspension lift only a body lift, chasiss no, kzn185. im running bf goodrich mt. i have now also developed a noise from the steering pump !!!!! i keep you posted !!!
WORST FEARS !!! ITS THE RACK !! got surf on 4 point lift and juggled everything about and its the end float on rack, looks like im calling milners on saturday unless anyone out there know better than me !!! i suppose it had to be the rack as everything else is new, the power steering pump has also started to make a noise so im just waitng for one more thing to go wrong has they normally come in threes eh !! IF ANYONE KNOWS WHERE I CAN GET A RACK CHEAPER THAN MILNERS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW !!
