  • Rear window sucsess story!!

Blimey, I thought that was really gonna be tricky but no!!! . After reading one of you lovely people's threads saying that most 92 toyota electric motor's are the same I popped down to my local breakers........... JOY!!!!!!The first car in the first pile..... a 92 carina (MK2). I open the door looked at the front window motor.. looked at my motor....looked at the other one and made the discovory that they're both the same. The only diffrence is the plug!!. A chop and a choccy block later *SUPER WINDOW* no drama. And after toyota told me 100 pounds plus....... I paid £20.25 (25p for the connector block (I thought I'd do a really proffesional job!!) lol ) and the scrappy has loads at 30 quid off the shelf. Hoorah for my surf I can get stuff in and out of the back!!!

Sorry if this is old news!!!!!
But I'm so happy perhaps the money I save can got towards the sat nav/dvd i want!!!!!

    THanks Guys and gals

      Nice one...

Just on the rear window, if the channels that hold the glass are rusty or in bad shape you can use the channels from most early toyotas as replacements. I use two from an early starlet and fitted them to the glass with new nylon wheels. Window works like new.

ahhh Excellent tip on the channels for rear window
I need one channel as it has rusted to bits on the rear window

scrappy (overton dismantlers in Aberdeen) wanted £75 for a rear window and channels! - when I just want 1 strip of metal
I will have to visit some other scrappys and find old toyota cars to get hold of one

        cheers!

Is this on your current 3rd Gen, or did u discover this on your previous 2nd Gen ?? Just curious, coz my window is a little loose in the lowered position, only really noticable when closing the tailgate, but would be nice to sort it....

It was on the 2nd gen Maurice, I stripped down the rear window on the 3rd gen and it's clean as a whistle in there. No rust or dampness etc. The lift up door on the 3rd's is so much better than the 2nd's in this regard.

I reckon the glass is loose because it is out of the tracks when it is down. The glass is wider at the bottom and when it's lowered there is no support against the side tracks. I have noticed a little play in mine too, but as you say only really noticable when closing the door.

went to a breakers yard today - no surfs or 4runners,
                but checked 2 1993-1994 doors on toyota Carina's and a G-reg (1989?) celica
and they didnt have metal channels on the glass like a 4runner...
Does anyone know which age and model of toyota car have metal channel runners same as rear window of gen2 4runner/surf?

                  Andy,

I used an early starlet as my donor car, I think it was around 1989 or '90

Try your toyota dealer for the window channels. I just replaced both channels on a 4-runner for £15!
