  • Electric raditor fan convertion

    Hi

I have just changed my cambelt and i am having my raditor recored with a new alloy core

Now i am thinking of removing the fan and viscous coupling and replacing it with 2 electric fans (from a mk3 mondeo tdci) and an electric temp switch on the rad !

Has any bodyelse done this sort of convertion ? if so had any problems ?

Hi, this is a very strait forward conversion and should take you a few hours making shure you take care with all the connections. I have a 95 4 runner 3ltr td and this has made a great improvement to the engine cooling.I used to be able to see a little movement in the temp gauge needle on long uphill runs, but since the conversion no movement at all,(apart from warming up). I would recommend a 16" fan but if you can fit the fans you have available they should be ok! Just a point, you can get a temperature sender arrangement that fits into the top radiator hose that has an adjusable temperature control and is far superior to the cappilary type sender. To compliment the electric fan i also fitted a secondary electric water pump, this is fitted into the heater hose on the side that circulates water from the thermostat. This pump is on the same circuit as the main electric fan and comes in when the fan is switched in, this has another great advantage of being able to prevent heat soak after the engine has been switched off by continuing to circulate coolant around the cylinder head! We al know the advantages of that!!
