Axle
Hi see if there are any markings on the 2nd hand "AXLE" and compare with your axle, l think there will be a slight difference in ratio,s for a diesel & petrol, plus is yours an "AUTO" or "MANUAL". The 4Runner axle will be off a "Manual" l think.Live Life To The Full

still need advice
Still need help on the rear axle , both axles have no distinct markings on them except the sticker on mine which informs of lsd oil only , visually they both seem to be exactly the same , and yes mine is a manual, whereas the other one was auto, my oil leak is getting worse now so have to make a decision soon.

As far as I know, you can easily check whether the gearing in both diffs is the same. Look at the VIN plate on the bulkhead in the centre of the engine bay.
At the bottom of the detail, there is a reference to Trans/Axle with details following such as R150F and G254.
The G254 indicates the diff gearing and if this was to match on both vehicles, you'd be laughing ... but
*edit*
'G254 indicates a 4.556:1 open diff ' Elvie says in another thread so this probably wont be the code on your 4runner but probably will be the code on the surfLast edited by JimL; 16 June 2004, 22:20.

Because the ratio is the same the diff / axle should be a straight swap. The only difference is the limited slip bit, but if yours is in that bad a state the lsd probably doesn't work anyway.Roger
