  • Rear window lifting mechanism

When I was closing the rear window the other day on my 1990 Surf it dropped one side and stopped going up because the glass was by now nolonger horizontal. I've taken the carpet cover and metal cover off and it looks like the fitting at the bottom of the glass is quite rusty. I won't be able to see exactly what's happened until I take the glass out, but that looks like a fiddly job!

Is this a common problem? Is there a replacement part that can be purchased or fabricated? Any advice, pictures, or diagram would be welcome please.

Nick the metal runner on the bottom of the glass has gone. You can get decent runners from one of the breakers on here if needed. It is a fiddly job but once done it should last a long time
Either that as above or the mechanism has gone but i would go with the above

I've got the rear window removed now and, as you say Stormforce, it's the bottom channels that clamp around the base of the window that have rusted away. Has anyone managed to remove and replace these without braking the glass? They looked tightly clamped.

Sounds like a good deal if the're not rusted. I was going to get a price from Toyota main dealer too tomorrow, but chances are that they will be silly money I'm sure. I'll wait to hear back from you.
              Cheers,
              Nick

I've not heard back so I'm going to have to order these parts new from the main dealer.
