  • I Painted My Grill!

    Hi All,

Whilst I was working at the horns etc. and had the grill removed I thought that it was looking a little shabby!

I had some "Surf Blue" spray left over from the light pod so I painted it!

    What do you think?

I reckon having a colour coded grill makes the Surf look a wee bit meaner and more modern.

Gonna try the front lower valence next time.

The A Frame has to go back on yet so I'll get another pic when it's done!

Anyone looking for blue "Surf" paint please ask as I found a really cheap supplier and the colour is exact!

The grill was a mare to get off, all the clips broke and it's only held on by the sidelights now!

Looks a bit naff near the side lights because of the chrome.

Am currently thinking of a way to sort this!

That's exactly what I was thinking!

How did you get the paint to adhere to the chrome so well?

400 grit wet or dry paper.

Looks surprisingly good from the front though I thought part of the appeal of the Surf is that it is covered in chrome bling. It would look terrible on most vehicles but there is something about the Surf that needs the bling on it. The ones with black mirrors and bumpers just don't look the same.

Does look a pit pants around the sidelights though, couldn't you take them out and paint th chrome bits around them?

The red bash plate looks a bit odd though. I sprayed mine with chrome paint to bling it up a bit.

on the subject of painting bits; does anyone know if the 3rd gen's plastic wheel arche's will take spray paint? i've had some plastics melt before with spray paint

i'm liking the grill and painted trim like, good job!!

                        Re

I did the light surrounds day before yesterday but it was so wet today when I put them back on I couldn't get a good snap.

I got the A Frame and spots on as well so I'll get a photo and post it asap.

The Surf looks deffo better now because the A Frame and spots adds just enough chrome bling to have the desired effect.

It seems to make it look just more modern! if you know what I mean?

I was loathe to spray the chrome at first but it was looking a bit "spotty" and tired!

I had tried to polish it but I guess it is just too old (17 years).

If I change my mind I can always buy some sidelights and a grill I suppose.

I "might" think about the chrome on the mirrors as well, it too has gone spotty!

Got to admit, I didn't like it at first, but now you've finished the job I think it looks quite tasty!! Makes the headlights stand out more.
