  • Operating Temperature?

    Hi,

Since I have changed the Water pump etc. I've noticed that it now takes very little time to whoosh up to about 95 degrees.

Before it climbed pretty slow but now it takes about 1/2 mins etc.

What is the average time from starting that a 2.4 takes to get up to temp?

Also, what the hell does a "jiggle Valve" do?

    Gary

Whooo 95 degrees, are you sure about that? Mine only gets that high when fully loaded, with fully loaded trailer on back on a long hill (Scotland).

My normal operating temperature is about 88.
      Gone from 4x4 to 1x2

My 2.4 doesn't take long to heat up (5 mins ?) and sits around 85 around town. At 70 on a motorway it goes up to ~95. In Spain at 35 degrees on very long hills it saw ~108 degrees.

          Re

          Well,

How come you think your temps are so accurate?

          I say "95" but it's subjective isn't it?

It's an aftermarket gauge (TIM) so it's probably not exact is it?

I guess unless you had an accurate thermometer stuck in the coolant then it could be anywhere between 80 and 100!

I'm not concerned about the running temp but was curious about how long the lump took to get there!

          Gary

PS What the hell is a "jiggle valve" for?

Criticising someone who is offering help/advice isn't exactly productive. Maverick is correct in that your running temps seem slightly high, if that reading is correct.

            To allow air through.

It allows trapped air to escape so that the coolant flows properly and not create 'hot spots'

                Criticising?

                You're mental!

Generally Matt I find you to be a helpful soul who always answers questions and aids everyone in need.

However, I do find your constant "Policing" of posts and your "opinions" of how they are written VERY irritating!

I mean't NO criticism, maybe it's they way I wrote it, perhaps if you read it again you will see that there is nothing sinister there!

Well I answered how long on average it takes my 2.4 to reach 'operating temp' and gave some extra info that I thought you and anyone who finds this info in a search may have found useful, considering the thread was called 'operating temp'. Mines a Tim gauge too btw.

The stock gauge stayed pefectly central, even at 108 degrees which was worrying.

Sorry my answer was not what you wanted

A simple fact was pointed out. There was no need to take that tone, and definitely no need to become personal and call me mental.

I apologised the last time we had a disagreement due to the fact that I was in the wrong. That does not mean I have to bite my tongue forever more and pretend that your abrasive attitude is any more acceptable than my complete lack of subtlety.
