my surf blew oil and now it is not happy(2.4 td)
hi..........
i was on a 150 m journey a while ago and about half way the car started to make a very subtle knocking sound!!
i stopped to take a look and the rubber inlet to the right of the turbo was spraying oil all around the engine!!
i refilled the oil and adjusted the screw....this seemed to stop the oil leak but the subtle knocking sound has remained?
it also seems to judder more when stationary and is harder to go into gear now.
i have replaced oil and air filters........but have noticed ever since this incident a slight oil leak on drive in morning and also a dodgy smell of burning?after a run.
it sounded so good before, can anyone give me any pointers??
many thanks.ian.

IMHO it's the turbo seals and bearings. There shouldn't be that much oil in the turbo to inlet hose. The knocking could just be bad running due to oil in the inlet. Gear problems could be because it is running bad but could also be main bearings gone causing the gearbox input shaft to vibrate because the crank is running out of true. Main bearings gone is also a deeper and less urgent knock than big ends.Originally posted by sabre1010hi..........

hi,in my engine the oil dipstick has a yellow top and is located up and to the right of something that has got turbo written on it,this rubber inlet comes down to this, passing the dipstick(on the right)and is approx 2" in dia,it attaches to the right hand side of this.
i hope this clarifys what im talking about,so how much of a job are the main bearings and the turbo seals......and do i need to realign my crank
many thanks for your assistance guys
