  • what is this thingy?

Hello fellow surfers, this is a great site and am glad I found it. I have an 01 ex-Japan Surf SSR-G and need help identifying this suspension setup. The shocks (front and rear) have what look like hydraulic lines running to a weird loking cylinder, one in front and one back. Here are pics or the rear setup, with the cylinder located near the left rear wheel. The front struts have a similar setup, with the cylinder located behind the radiator. There are no electrical connections to the cylinders, and I do not have the firm/soft ride control option that some trucks have. Sorry about the lengthy post, any ideas????

Remote reservoir for the damping oil/gas in the shocks. Common feature on motorcycle shocks. Have had them in the past when you change air pressure in reservoir to change damping rate.

Thanks, I was really bummed on that one. I've also noticed that the truck is bouncy over speed bumps and such, the shocks are getting worn, so should I make some adjustment to the thingy or....? Plus, can I just get ordinary shocks/struts and do away with this setup? I am quite mechanically inclined so a suspension job would be no prob.

I would say bin them and get some new ones.

Roughtrax is a good place to start....
