  • Panhard rod question

since i lifted my surf the body is now out of line due to the panhard rod kicking it out as i left the standard one on it.
when i buy and adjustable panhard rod, how does it fix on just so i know.
is it a case of pull out the length you need, bolt on both ends and then is there a bit on the rod that you adjust to tighten it all togther?

They have a threaded section with a locknut. Just bolt up one end, adjust length and then bolt up the other end and tighten the locknut. I'd show you a pic of mine but the adjustable section has a rubber boot over it to keep it clean. Just a universal steering rack boot cut to size.

Something else may be pulling something out of line then. Based on a 3" lift, I seem to remember it should be 6 - 7 mm max, theoretically speaking. I dont recall anyone proving trigonometry and the laws of mathematics wrong as yet.

would it have something to do with the "tramp bars/arms???" we had a struggle fitting the springs on because when we extended our axel stands out fully and sat the truck on it and then lowered the trolly jacks to drop the axel, we didnt have enough room to drop it enough to fit the springs....so....we un did the "tramp bars?" to help give us a bit more flex so we could wriggle the springs on insted of re-jacking it all up again etc etc.
i can see from looking at where the "tramp bar" sits back in its bush that it is slightly twisted. but only slightly.

EDIT: i got 4" lift from the springs not a 3" btw.

You got 3" like the rest of us, the extra inch was sorting out the rear end sag.

That said, you have locators fitted? The'll give you an extra wee bit of lift.

Except when you did the trig calcs you didn't take the 3rd dimension of the axle swinging forwards into account.

That will change the apparent length by, oooh, a mil or so?

                        I'll measure later and confirm.
