  • Slight problem with torsion bars, help please

First of all I appreciate all the help given so far, I have hit a snag, I have recently upgraded the back springs with +2" from Rough Trax, when I took the originals off, they were the same size in height? but the Rough Trax ones were a lot thicker, when it was done they had lifted the back up, so no more saggy arse lol, I have decided to wind up the torsion bars to level it out, before I started winding them up the distance between the top of the rim and the start of the wheel arch is 330mm, when i wound the torsion bars right up and checked it was 440mm does this sound like a stock torsion bar or an after market one, as I was going to upgrade the bars and did not want to waste money
PS took all morning winding up and down to get it right thanks

thats 4" of height you wond them up then.
If i was you i would take at least 2" back off as you will be buying cv joints week after week. The max you should wind the t/bars is 2" and thats with no diff spacers fitted.Did you read up and follow instructions on winding the t/bars.
The normal ride height is 13 - 13.5 inch.

thats ok then but i wouldn't of minded selling you spare driveshafts tho lol.
When winding the t/bars up you will also lift the rear end slightly aswell.

The uprated t/bars are just basically stronger due to the amount of lift you have to wind them up for.
The old ones will go up high but they will probably end up snapping when you go over a bump

For anything over 2" of lift then i would say yes buy the uprated bars or if you are going to be doing any extreme-ish off roading but other than that keep to the stock ones.
The cheaper way to lift the front end would to be fit upper ball joint spacers as you will get your 2" of lift without adjusting the t/bars

Paypal will be fine but wait till i got it off and ready to send before paying tho.Have a chat with surfenstein as he was doing that sort of stuff.I'll take a look at ebay in a min to see whats going.I try to stay with the 3.0ls at the moment as there seems to be more call for the parts on them.
The 2.4 i got here aswell at the mo i mainly bought because i got a buyer for a good engine
My mrs is 5'4 and she manages to get into mine but once i get the 6" suspension lift and 3" body lift on the truck to fit the 39's then she may struggle a bit then to get in it.

If i can get time i'll get the pump out in a couple of days for you

mines only 5' and is already making her own rope ladder, she says while you are so into buying things for the car don't forget to buy your mrs a pair of 6" stillettos and a set of kitchen steps or a rope ladder to throw out of the door. Now for the serious stuff will you be off roading and how do you think it will perform???
I am new into the off roading lark, I want to make the lil mule capable but have a serious lack of knowledge and not enough sponds to throw at it
How can i get in touch with you at the end of the week with regards to the pump????

nce the 39's are fitted i won't be off roading the truck but i may look into getting something just for playing in the mud with tho.
Theres a few guys from Kent that go off roading so keep an eye open i the off road section for when they are going again.
The main thing you'll need for off roading is a decent set of all terrains or muds.Plenty of the guys still have standard height trucks and they all do well off road

Thanks for all your help and patience Rich, I have just paid my subscription so I should be able to pm you by the end of the week about the pump. My lil mule has 31x10.5x15 grizzly claw mud plugger on it and as long as my wheels reach the floor I don't have any problems with it yet.

Thats a lot of lift on stock torsion bars, i thought the max you could get was 2"!, more than that and you have to replce em with upgraded ones, did'nt wind mine up as i did'nt fancy em snapping, so did the 2" BJ spacers instead,
was it "bundabasher" that had one snap?
Too young to die and too old to give a toss
