Greetings all. 1989 Hilux Surf 2.4 L Diesel Model LN 130. Engine Model 2L-T. In trying to bleed the fuel line after replacing the fuel filter at the recommended 5,000 km interval, the metal fuel line which extends from a small black "doughnut" immediately below the bleeder nut broke. It appears that when one tries to loosen the bleeder nut, the "doughnut" also turns - hence breaking the metal line. Trying to get a wrench under the "doughnut" to secure the base and hence restrict the "doughnut" from turning is next to impossible. Managed to find a machinist who added a few extra inches of metal line that broke off the "doughnut" to which we attached the rubber fuel hose from the other end of the metal line. The metal line was too difficult to remove so it is still connected to the engine. Question (1): Is this retrofit safe - no rubber bits are near the engine. Question (2): How do I find a replacement "doughnut" with metal line? Question (3): How to bleed the fuel line so this doesn't happen again. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. On July 23, 2009 I added the pics. The "doughnut" is seen in hand while the bleeder valve with broken fuel line is in the other pic.
