  • 4WD & Noises

    hi folks...

i have a problem... a noise to be speciffic:

it's a irregular squeeky/rattly noise that i get on occasion... ONLY when warm and 30mph upwards, sounds like it's coming from the front of my surf... i've checked all the usual stuff, exhaust rattles etc to no avail...

this afternoon i was on a nice straight road with this squeeky rattle so i flicked it into 4WD and the noise got considerably worse so it seems that the problem is related to front diff/joints/ADD... or maybe transfer box/prop shaft?

any ideas on what i can check/test?

    shish

there is some play in the front driveshafts but you need to check near the cv joints

looks like i have found the problem...

front o/s driveshaft @ the diff end has a lot of play, looks like its been leaking oil from the seal too so there must be plenty of movement.

whats the best way to tackle this, swap the front diff for a 2nd hand one or pull it apart and replace the bearing and/or the diff carrier?
