auto to manual swap?

hi guys, i am a qualified mechanic,but i dont know alot about toyota hilux's and i have a friend who has a 1993 2.4 td ssr-x auto, and he picked up a g-reg ltd edition 3dr manual, (2.4td also???) and he wants me to swap the manual box into is auto?we have the whole car so everything we wuould need,but i have 3 questions
1. is this possible (both are 4x4 i believe)
2. has anybody on here done it
3. will i need any special tools

I would think it's possible, as you are taking away a lot of the electrics, but also adding a clutch and all that goes with it.

My one question is WHY???

The auto's are far better all round than the manuals....

Whats happened to this thread cause i put a couple of replies to this last night.The ecu's are different for starters and and you will need to add the clutch pedal aswell as change the brake pedal i would think.I reacon its a lot of work for no benefit at all
