  • 3rd Gen Lift for 33's

    Hey,

    So this is my plan:

    1) 2" pro-comp suspension lift from Roughtrax (cause I aint paying £600 for TJM!) -- Linky
    2) 1.5" body lift from Milners (cause I can't find any other lift kits in the UK) -- Linky

    So the questions are:

    1) Will the above be enough to put 33's on?
    2) Do I need to do anything else for the sus lift?
    3) Do I need to do anything else for the body lift (I know about the steering column)?
    4) Does anyone know of a cheaper suspension lift method for the 3rd gen?
    5) Anyone know of a good place to do this and other work in the Essex/Kent area?

Thanks in advance for the help guys!

Should be ok, ask Tonyn or Jotto to make you a 2" lift kit (if they're still doing them)
My last truck had the tjm 60mm suspension lift kit and 2" bodylift with plenty of space to fit my 33 BFG's.

    Just found mine:

      Thanks Antshiel,

Did you do the work yourself?

Hopefully Tonyn happens upon this thread. I did call him a few weeks back to ask if he was doing any work, but it seems he is a bit stuck atm...

Tony did the body lift (they are easy to do, i did my 2nd gen on my own) under my close supervision and i fitted the suspension myself.

So I just did some research for kits in the US and found the Daystar kit. Now I know that they are a budget option, but just wanted to check a few things about their 2.5" kit. The instruction manual is here:

          link

Am I right in saying that this kit does not require new shocks?

I guess that a diff drop kit may be needed? What else?

Didn't know they would fit with such a small body lift only! Good to know, although I am more keen on a sus lift as it will give more ground clearance for the chasis.

              lift

mate, im literally about to do the same lift on a 3rd gen aswell

Where is the cheapest place you have found tyers.. ive decided to go with the BFG AT 33's. I thnk the landrover site is the cheapest. I have had a look on ebay and found a guy that is pretty cheap.. does them with rims aswell. I can send the link if you like.

And sus wise I think I will go the es9000's
I know in the roughtrax kit they use monroe.. which back home at the budget shock (nothing wroing with them though)

When are you planing to do the lift.. would you mind me coming round and having a look while you do it?

              Cheers mate

ohh and OutrageousOffroad do a 2 inch body lift kit.. looking at £100

I gave neil a call and he was great on the phone really helpful

you will also have to look at a panhard rod mod (bracket) or a ajustable. Again OutrageousOffroad do these.. I think £165

You won't need to adjust the panhard rod if you're only going 2".

                    Hi Hurtinit,

Yeah, course you can come over. I am in still trying to decide which route to go! I haven't even started looking at tyres yet. I ruined one of my current AT's over the weekend whilst out lanning.

Please send me that link to look at for the tyres, that would be great!

                    Where is back home?

You'll need a spacer in the steering column joint on a third gen bodylift if I remember.

                          My problem is this:

There are so many things that need to be thought about when doing lifts, both body and suspension. I am trying to work out how much work, cost and pain is involved for each height so that I can decide on which to do!

Thanks again for all the help guys!

So far I think I have this (please correct/add where necessary) :

                          BODY:

                          0-1"
                          1) Steering column extension
                          2) Transmission linkage
                          3) Spare tyre winch (under mount)
                          4) Bumpers

                          1"-2"
                          1) Steering column extension
                          2) Transmission linkage
                          3) Spare tyre winch (under mount)
                          4) Bumpers
                          5) Gear lever touches frame

                          > 3"
                          1) Steering column extension
                          2) Transmission linkage
                          3) Spare tyre winch (under mount)
                          4) Bumpers
                          5) Fuel pump wire harness
                          6) AC Hoses
                          7) Front brake hard line brackets
                          8) Wire harness bracket (engine compartment)
                          9) Gear lever extensions

Is there anything else, or am I making too much of a big deal out of this?

Going back to the Daystar 2.5" suspension lift, would you say this kist is complete? Would I need to get longer shocks or are the spacers included or would the factory shocks handle the extra length?
