  • Cleaning up rusty rear bumpers..!

    Hi y'all!

I'm just wondering how I can clean up my rusty rear 1/4 bumpers and make them look a bit more respectable. They're not too bad at the moment, but I've a wedding to attend soon, and they're the only thing that's making my Smurf look a bit scruffy!

    Thanks for your help!

'autosol' polish and elbow grease will bring them up a treat

      Autosol...!

I have some of that somewhere... or at least I did have! Having said that, I probably bought it in the late 80's so I think I'll invest in a new tube!

      Cheers bud!

I've been using 'barkeepers friend' to keep the rusty bumper looking ok...

It's a powder you put on a damp cloth and polish with. Tescos sell it.

If you are taking the quarter bumpers off to clean them it might be worth cleaning and derusting the rear of each one, then coat the rusted bits in Kurust or similar and then either Hammerite or underseal the rears to stop the rust penetrating from the inside. Then a regular polish with chrome cleaner should keep them looking good for years to come. Did all that to mine recently as they were starting to look a bit worse for wear.
