  • Broken Wheel Stud

    Hi Folks

One of my wheel studs broke whilst having the wheel changed by tyre man, yes he was using a torque wrench suprise suprise. So has anyone replaced a stud before and can anyone post a diagram front hub, hoping someone can help.

no diagrams from me but do a search on 'wheel stud' and it throws up about 10 threads with stuff to glean from each

Front means removing caliper and hub assembley then separating hub from disc (6 bolts).Knock out old studs ( I replaced all on front) and install new ones.Mark hub and disc to make sure they go back together the same way or you could end up with disc not running true.Use an anti sieze compound on wheel studs.

Heavy handed bunch!! Poor wheel nuts, probably the most over tightened piece of metal in history.

Nothing to do with a 3 foot bar most people jump on then, or an air gun on max at the garage???????

                    Hand book says......

"Use only the wheel nut wrench to tighten the nuts, DO NOT USE OTHER TOOLS OR ANY ADDITIONAL LEVERAGE OTHER THAN YOUR HANDS, SUCH AS HAMMER, PIPE OR FOOT......."

If one stud breaks I suggest replacing the six. Why???Well it's a PITA job and if you replace them all and use an anti sieze compound on the new ones and only tighten the correct amount they there should be no more problems. If anyone with a rattle gun ever breaks one again have him pay to replace it.
