how does the tonneau go on?

Stupid question I know but I've just got rid of the Truckman top and have a vinyl tonneau to go on the back of my single cab Hilux. There is a long bungy around the outside to hook onto the, er, hooks, but any idea how it fits to the ladder rack? There are cutouts for the uprights, and the edge is hemmed with a tube along it, though you can barely get your litle finger inside it, and the ends are closed. As I say, bit a dim question but what is supposed to go in there to hold it on?

On the latest Hiluxs it's a piece of semi-flexible plastic about 4mm diameter. you thread it thru the hemmed in tube behind the ladder rack and bend it to poke the ends in the "pockets" at either side. Does that make sense? About the size of the stuff you use to hang net curtains, but stiffer.
