  • Disc Brakes...

    Hi guys,

has anyone done a rear disc brake conversion and how difficult is it to do? Also... what else will i need apart from the obvious discs and calipers? Any special tools required etc...

Another question... is it worth doing the conversion and will it cost a arm and a leg??

    Cheers

    Hi Brood,

I don't think it's worth it really, most manufacturers have built in
the correct front/rear ballance, all you will do is upset this, and
maybe end up with a car that's over braked at the rear, and
all it want's to do is turn round very quickly under braking. (not good!!!)
Plus, I think it's a lot of work for not a lot.
    But, that's only my view.

LASupertrux used to do a bracket which enabled you to fit ford sierra/granada discs & calipers to the rear, they seemesd to stop doing it for a while, but i noticed they had them listed on ebay again last week - here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rear-disk-conv...3A1|240%3A1318

I was tempted by it, but found the rear brakes and handbrake both improved immensely when i got under the truck and adjusted them, so didn't bother.

I would consider doing the swap for the reliability rather than performance. With discs you wont need to remove the drums and hose out all the shite each time you do some muddy offroading!
Once fitted it would only be a simple task of either adjusting the load sensing valve or by fitting an after market balancer to detune the rear braking.
