  • fixing leaking rear diff

    following on from here http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/forums/sh...ad.php?t=52586
I currently have lost diff oil out the rear passenger side hub. So a few questions,
1, what parts would be required to repair this situation?
2, How easy of a job is this?
3, the leak came from the passenger side, but would it be best to replace driver's side parts too?
4, I'm guessing it would be adivisable to replace brake shoes too?
5, If bribed with food and beer and place to stay, would soemone be able to help me fix it?

All help welcome, thanks in advance Jason

I'd do both sides and change the shoes, just in case.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

ok thanks. Anyone know if this http://www.roughtrax4x4.com/?doc=16&cid=147&vid=1072 is the kit to repair the seal? I know it's got the bearing kit with it, but figured if it's in bits might as well replace them.

Thats the one mate, its probably only the outer seal thats gone but for £31 you may as well do the lot.
If its not broke don't fix it.

I got mine done at the garage, was gunna atempt it my self but the guy who does my truck said it would be £40 inc the seal.

I waited with the truck while he did it & TBH im glad i did'nt have a go, it took him about 45 minutes, but you could put your life on it that it would have taken me a full day.

It looked easy enough but im am a bit of a wuss

As well as the kit ask for the O-ring between the bearing and case. It should be part of the kit in my opinion.

I'm a wuss too, but would like to give it a go still.
