  • Stiff bonnet hinges

My '95 Surf has stiff bonnet hinges - so stiff that opening and closing it momentarily deforms the bulkhead. Problem is that the hinge pivots seem to be buried somewhere behind the bulkhead, with the levers appearing through rubber grommets. Am I missing something? Is there an easy way to lubricate them? I can't find any reference in the Toyota workshop manual. Any thoughts will be very welcome.

Common problem on Toyota in general . Yes the pivots are buried in the bulkhead and to be honest removing the bonnet then the hinges for a good lube is the only way to fix it .

Thanks for responding. All understood but any ideas how to remove the hinges themselves? - looks as if the entire dashboard would need removing first!
