  • Failed MOT!

Not too bad I don't think,
'excessive play in n/s front steering idler' and
'n/s front outer cv boots torn.'
That's it for the MOT and few advisories though like a anti roll bat bush split, inner cv boots torn and the amber coating from an indicator bulb is faded!

So, do I need to buy a steering idler or can they be fixed? Are they the same as a 4runner?

    Cheers, Damian.

Milners (www.milneroffroad.co.uk) are selling the whole arm at £55, or individual bushes at a few quid. Unless money is tight I'd go for the whole arm.
Everything's easy, when you know how!

Steering Idler is the same as a 2nd gen 4 runner. Bushes are easy to change but I'd personally go for the complete arm. I changed the bushes on mine recently however I don't reckon they will last longer than a year as the bearing surface of the shaft itself was pretty well knackered.

CV boots will be the most difficult but even then not too bad.

      Cheers

Didn't this come up a while ago??? - I think you can get a universal CV boot which comes split and you cut it to size and glue it together with the stuff that is provided
            NO WORRIES!

the 3 bolts that hold the main bracket on have nuts on the engine bay side & theyre a bit tight so you need offset spanners to get to it without taking the skin off your knuckles. the ball joint needs a splitter as mine was a pig to get off.

Even if you can't the proper gaiter isn't that hard a job, just messy. Just pull the drive shaft, remove the inner joint, replace gaiter/s, and toss it back together!
