  • Advice re tyres and suspension

    Hi all,

    A bit of advice please:

My Surf is kitted out with a home built tool rack / storage down the LH side, and I tend to carry a lot of stuff around (big drums of cable, lots of tools etc).

My tyres all seem to be slow-leaking even when empty as I have to keep topping them up - to be honest they look rather petrified, and the rubber looks kind of crazed in places (Bridgestones - are they original?).

I don't use the vehicle off road, just as a workhorse during the week, and on the odd weekend, I slide the rack out, put the seats back up, and the load changes to 4 peeps, dogs, weekend bags, etc.

Just wondering what folks would recommend in terms of tyres, and also suspension - should I go for the 2" lift, or uprated springs, or.... what?

To be honest I don't really want the really jacked-up look, but need to get rid of the saggy bottom which has started showing, as well as being able to handle the 300-400 kg loads I have to chuck in the back.

Can you get adjustable shocks for the Surf?

    I have a 96 KZN 185 3.0 diesel auto.

    Any help appreciated, thanks.

If it was me i would go for 20% stronger springs on the rear and leave the standard shocks if there ok and as for tyres go for somthing like avon rangers as they are 80% road 20% off road so you will get less road noise and better handling

        mornin

I have the 20% uprated springs on the back of my 3rd gen - £44.00 from Milners & took about an hour to fit - longest part of the job is winding the spring compressors on & off. Ride is much better, with or without the caravan on the back.

If you are thinking of the Avon rangers (never used them myself, I prefer a more All Terrain tyre) ATS have them on 30% discount, if you buy 4, up to 13/10/08. Around us that means £295.00 inc vat & fitting.

        Hope this helps

          hello m8,

i put 20% uprated springs from roughtrax withprocomp es9000 2" lifted shocks. The originals were knackered., Ive just fitted same to the front - oh what a difference!

tyres were Khumo AT road venture 31/10/15 - 70/30 on/offroad.

          cant complain at all.

heres a pic of the saggy arse solution:

            Nice pics sequence!

Thanks for your advice everyone - I'll probably end up going for the 20% springs and change the shocks while I'm at it.

One question though: why are Roughtrax always more expensive than Milners on everything?
