  • what type of jack??

    Ladies/Gents,

I have had my surf 3.0 ssrx for four weeks now and have loved every minute driving it, but in all the excitement I have only just aquired an English manual and have found out my jack is missing also the tool kit. All the extension bars are under the seat but nothing else, I have also looked in the boot with no luck, can anyone please answer the following questions:

What type of jack is a good replacement and what height do I need it to raise to?

Also I quite like driving with the suspension switched to the hard setting, will this have any long term damage on the vehicle?

I'd also like this opportunity to thank Nigel for helping me get back my password after having problems accessing parts of the site.

    Thank's
    Mark.

They generally come with a bottle jack - you might be lucky enought to find one in breakers... as they are under the seat they oftn get forgotton...

      Thank you Linda,

I'll try the breakers next week when I'm off work. When I've sorted out the jack I'll maybe venture up to see the other members and have a go at the offroad stuff, looks great fun!!
Do any of the members venture into Wales, Brecon has been mentioned, I'll have to phone around and find an offroad centre.

      Regards

If you can find a tallish bottle jack it will be fine emergency use.

At home for maintenance work I find this 5 tonne tractor/farm jack is the dogs danglers for working on my Surf. Almost exactly the right height when lowered just to slide right under the chassis rails. A couple of clicks with 5' scaffold lifts the Surf into the air. Maximum height 600mm!

I also have one of those cheapo-crapo 2 tonne trolley jacks which I really would not reccomend on a large 4x4. Get hold of 3 tonne trolley if you're going to use one.

Driving on HARD will not damage your Surf.

I spent the whole of last week driving in Mid Wales (Welshpool/Lake Vyrnwy area) and there are some great green lane routes here (see attached pics) which see very little recreational use at the moment.

Brecon sees a lot of pressure from off road users (abuse mainly from motoX bikes has caused a number of routes to be closed to vehicles). But I guess Neath is a lot closer to Brecon Becons!

          Thanks NevilleF,

The photos look great, I drive past the area every so often, I'll have to take a detour.

I've sorted the problem with the jack as the dealer who sold me the car has now found a replacement.
