gonna have a go at lifting the front of my truck (so it looks level) this weekend. What is the stock height for a surf.?

    Ive just measured mine all round, from the uppermost rim on the wheels results were;

    N/S/F 295mm
    N/S/R 330mm
    O/S/R 320mm
    O/S/F 280mm

looks like its had new springs on the back. Is 13" higher than stock..??

    cheers, Nik..

fill in your details so folk know what model youv'e got.

on a gen 2, front is inch and a quater or inch and a half more space from top of wheel rim to wheel arch, the front wheel arch is cut into the wing higher on the front, so the best thing to do is put the truck on a flat surface and put a spirit level on the under chasis or side steps or doors trim to know when your on flat and level ground and then work from there.

trouble i had with mine was the heavy duty springs pushed the front down and they were to tired to crank up, so roughtrax supplied some heavy duty torsion bars and new shocks.

it handels briliantly now, so its well worth doing. it was almost frightening beffor with a stiff backend and wallowy front, i thought i was going to fall out the window.

had a mess round with the truck earlier..

found the adjusters and wound about 5 turns on (tightening). This had no real noticable effect..im guessin would need to wind a fair bit more than that..??

also, i noticed the threaded bar was touching the underside of the body with around 40-50mm of thread before the nut..is this normal too..??

        thanks again Nik..

yes and thats about as far as they will go. if you tighten any further you stand the chance of lifting the end of the torsion bars off the cradles that they sit on.

          you need some of these

and some of these would go nice

i got my springs from L A supertrux, (http://www.supertrux.com/acatalog/Lifting_Coils.html) and have got a hieght of 15" front and
14" to 14-1/4" back depending on fuel and load, measuring the way you describe.
i probably would have just bought a full kit from roughtrax but i started the job from the sagging back end and la trux are fairly close to me and they are a good bunch of folk and fitted the springs the day after i phoned them.

yea looked at thier kits earlier..

Will go for the job-lot option at £350-odd i think an have done with it..will this keep geometry good at the front.? Lift the body a bit and should be somewhere near the look im after

Winding the torsion bars will also lift the rear slightly at the same time.
Are your shocks set to 'Hard' ? (Switch on dash)

Oh yeah, the front wheels need to be off the ground before you turn the adjusting bolts on the T/bars.

im still experimenting with the switch, do tend to leave it on hard tho. Im thinkin the front sus' is about ready for refreshing. After my initial fiddle i had a good bounce on the front and it was very 'wallowy' taking probably 3 or 4 occilations to come to rest.

Probably up-rate the lot if & when i shift the omega

[QUOTE=an1mal_69;477866]..will this keep geometry good at the front.? /QUOTE]

mine was drifting gently to the left beffor i had even started so i didn't get the caster or camber done straight away, because it was no better or worse after, i figgured better to drift to the left than the right. and i was planning on replacing some steering components, so i thought i would let it seetle in for a few weeks.

rule of thum is that you have it checked after though,

i would agree with you, by the sound of it your shocks wont cope with an even stronger torsion bar, might even catapult you out the sun roof, har har
