bad engine knock

the engine in my 1992 j reg surf is a 2.4 turbo diesel its got a very bad knock on it i've been offered an engine from a 1987 e reg hilux pick up thats a 2.4 none turbo the engine looks the same but are they compatible with each other or as it a waste of money? cheers if anyone can help, Nick

i think its a waste of time and effort with that swap.You may well need the ecu and wire loom for it also i'm not sure

Total waste of time- you need like for like- totally different engine and electrics. Plenty of good engines around but through experience i advise taking head off new engine before installing, that way you can be sure of a good one. (also much easier to put in with head off)
