  • KZN130 vs KZN185

    OK, who's owned both a 3.0 2nd Gen and a 3rd Gen then?
I am thinking of getting a new truck as the 2nd gen has done 240,000kms and need a decent tow vehicle.
Is a 3rd gen any better or worse at towing than what I have? It needs to be able to pull well and handle a heavy load (3 tonne or so). I think the intercooled engine will be up to it, but what about the revised suspension?
Any help will be greatly appreciated as I can't decide to go 3rd gen, Colorado, or keep saving for a 'Cruiser, but most of the ones I can afford are all rough and tired .

    Wassup? Everyone asleep?!
Or do 2nd Gen owners never buy 3rd gens and move up to Land Cruisers instead

Engine wise, I believe (but I'll probably be corrected quite quickly) that the two share essentially the same engine. The intercooled version does have a touch more power obviously.

Can't comment on towing at all other than to say that 3ton is waaaay beyond the recommended limit of a Surf of 1.5ton. Not saying it can't do it, just that Toyota wouldn't recommend it.

Also, you'll probably want to look into some additional cooling for the auto-box.

3rd gen is a far better tow car, it weighs more, and has AWD.

          End of story.

            Thank you all!!!
I think a 3rd Gen might just be the ticket then. Rather have a decent 3rd gen than a duff 'Cruiser (if there is such a thing)
