Speaking of seals, here's a bit of info that you and everyone should keep for reference. Toyota changed the Steering Knuckle Seal design and in doing so also changed the CV Joint Seal which mates with this. The result is if you need to replace the original seal in the Steering Knuckle then you also have to buy the CV Seal because it wont be compatable with the new Steering Knuckle Seal.

              More info here -

cant get through to toyota - old seal is dead and inner bush wont budge! put it back together in 3 wheel drive mode for now...

like the referance you asked for, re tony- punch out the inner bush! 'easy'

you need a long screwdriver or steel shaft and knock the inner bush out from the inside with a good heavy club hammer or lump hammer.

it has to come out squarish, so one good blow at 12 oclock position and then 6 oclock and nine then three, if you've moved it a bit it may have jammed so perhaps knocking it in may square it back up, but they really do fly out with a coupple of good firm blows with a lump ommer

yeah im doing it right then I guess, Im using a chisel going front to back. back to front for the outer bush was easy enough. will try knocking it back in though (i it has moved any amount of mm!) good idea.

Roughtrax will be stocking the seals from now on for those doing bronze bush changes who need them.

yes thats how i did mine.

the fronts do come out and go in a lot easier than the backs.
i hit the backs so hard with a 1 kg lump hammer, they where either going to come out or get sliced in half.

if your going to draw the new back ones in with a peice of threaded bar after tapping in the fronts.

                      as a tip
smear som grees in the hole, and around the bush

if you hold the back bush against the hole its going in and then set the bar and washers up (as described in past links) and gently tighten it to hold in place, you should be able to see if its going in square by looking all around its beveled edge, then tighten it a bit moor, if it starts to go off center you can square it up by tapping it with a small hammer, as long as there is some tension on the home made squeezer or press ( your threaded bar) it wont pop out, just keep cheking it every few mm, after about the first 15mm or so its just a case of winding it in,

this was the part of the job where i did all my sweating, it takes alot of force or tightening to draw it in, i suppose in the factory they would use a mechanical press
