over drive

I am new to the site , so a hello to every one .I am about to buy a 3.0 toyota surf , but it has a few problems , first the auto box , the over drive light flashes but the box still works fine , is this a common problem , and what are the reliability of the engine and box ,diff electrics ,ie is there any common expensive things that i have to look out for, thanks for your time as i look forward to hearing from you ---Karl

the O/D light flashing indicates a gearbox fault of some description - could be anything from a duff/disconnected sensor to ........ well i dunno what really. It's not common - but it ain't uncommon either.

I'd be inclined to at least find out what it is that's causing it to flash before parting with cash, unless it's going cheap because of it. There's descriptions of how to pull the fault codes somewhere on www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/ so could try and just do that to find out what it is.

mine flashes because speedo dosn't work [mines code 42]i think

the speedo does not work on this one so i surmise that it is the same problem , thanks for the quick response--Karl

it's probably the no.1 speed sensor then - fairly easy fix i understand and only the cost of the sensor to put right, Dave's just a lazy git.

no i'm not have tried a couple of sensors
next time im down your way you can sort it out and make me out to be a liar
