  • tires catching front wheel arches

    Hello to all surfers,

Recent i have had a 2" suspension lift (big improvement) and i've fitted 30mm wheel spacers. But now the front tires are catching on the arches, its catching the colour coded plastic arch bits at the end of the bumper.

Its really annoyed me as next month i was going to go from 31 to 33 on a new set of A/T's. But thats just going to knock the shite out of my trim.

Anyone else had this problem. Did you get it sorted..

    Cheers dudes....

Which model Surf do you have?
What has been done to the suspension to lift it 2"?
You'll need at least 4" of total lift to clear 33" tyres.

Just trim the plastic back a little till it clears, it cuts easy with a sharp Stanley knife and if you're carefull you'll never notice.

You'll need 4-5" of lift to fit 33's comfortably.

If it`s just the front then adjusting the torsion bars should take care of 31" tyres. Like said, you`ll have to add a bodylift to the susp. lift to clear 33".

the spacers will be what's causing you problems at the moment. They make the wheel move in a wider arc therefore catching places they wouldn't catch without spacers.

Thanks again guys.... the reason i went for a 2" sus lift is because it only cost me £425.00 ... A 4" lift was going to cost about £1600.00 ... hugh difference..

Bit annoyed but what else can i do.. cheers...

for what you payed for that 2" lift you could of got a 5" lift done using landcruiser springs and 2" bodylift for a little more than what you spent

The thing is I know nothing about how to lift trucks, or adjust torsion bars. Also body lift kits is quite a hard job to do i've been told.. If anyone wants to do me a 2" body lift they are very welcome too.. Obviously I will pay for the parts and fitting.. I just haven't a clue where to start and haven't the time too.. I have a 6 year old daughter & 6 month old son that demands most of my time. And working 60 hours a week doesn't leave me much time for myself. I am lucky if I do any green-laning once a month.. But the whole family loves it so not much convincing needed..

Anyway, thanks for all the help...

                        Hello Stormforce,
You have been very helpful with your replies. Thanks..
How do i find Stein, i tried doing a search on members list but got no joy.
Does he have a email add, and will he be annoyed at me contacting him..
I would very much love to meet other surfers and also have my truck body lifted so i can get my 33"'s on.. I live in a small town and there are only a few surfers live here but they are just the typical type of people who buy 4x4's for school trips..
                        Thanks again for your time..

Its not! don't make him feel bad thats (roughly) how much you pay for a Proper 2" Suspension Lift. Don't get it confused with a cheapo body lift.

A 2" suspension lift comes with 2x uprated torson bars, 4x shock and 2x +2" rear coils.

A body lift, like you said is just a bunch of block and bolts.

A proper suspension lift matches spring and shock rates for the new higher center of gravity of the truck, and give you more suspension travel. A body lift JUST lifts the body up higher of the chassis, you don't get better handling (in fact its slightly worse), or more suspension travel.
