Engaging 4WD/HUB LOCK while moving.

Was going very slow but I heard a grinding noise when I hit the HUB LOCK button...Cab this do damage?

Were the wheels straight when you shifted? If not, or they were under load, you will get a grinding as the ADD locks up.

If you have a 2nd gen (drop down tailgate) you must never engage 4wd on highway or where the wheels have good traction. The truck does not have a centre diff and you will get transmission wind up and break something.

3rd gens (lift up tailgate) have a centre diff so can do AWD on highway. But (I think) the centre diff can be locked into 4WD which must again not be used on highway.

I actually hav A 92 LandCruiser Prado with the 2.4 Engine and I've been told it shares many characteristics with the HiluxSurf.Everything seems to be fine and I'll make sure in the future to engage 4WD only when stopped and where I really need the traction. Thanks (Hard to find info on vehicles when you own one of only a few in this part of the world...lol)

I'd think its just the electric hubs lining themselves up as the splines move as you are going along.

I'd imagine you can shift on the fly like Surfs and 4Runners, so you must be able to lock the hubs while moving or it won't work. But not sure as not seen many, need a owners maual.

Mmmm, electric hubs...

Lost count of the amount of times I've forgotten to engage mine and sat there wondering why I cant climb out of a relatively simple muddy hole!
