    after my stupidity this evening
    i'm wondering can water get into the auto box and axles when wading as all of the under carriage was immersed.
    Surf.gone but not forgottendisco now gone aswell

    Not sure about the auto box but axles/diffs yes. Unless you have diff breathers it is poss to get some in there, not much to change oil though.

        Yup, its good for the truck anyway, even if you havent drawn on water. Wear gloves if you can, and dont get diff oil on your clothes

          good old hypoid oil still got the smell on my jeans from when an apprentice mechanic 25 years ago lol

            Nasty stuff. But I agree with the unstoppability of these trucks (just read your other thread) another 4" of lift and your headlights wouldve been out the water

                  You CAN get water in all the parts, but they all have breather caps, so you need to be in the water a long time and the breather itself needs to be stuck open, sometimes they are stuck shut when you take them out which is good for going in water, but not so good for venting pressure in the axles and gearbox.

                      Yes, the stock axle-breathers will let in water if axle pressure drops- when stopped in water. You can undo the filler nut and stick the tip of your finger down to check for white/frothy/foamy oil. As for the gearbox- most commonly they let in water through the filler pipes. Again, difficult to happen when moving through water.
